A Home Made for Living In

A Home Made for Living In

I love vintage floral fabric, old books, and the kind of timber that looks better with a little wear. I also live in a family home, which means a lovely surface can acquire a cup, a book, and somebody’s abandoned project before I have finished admiring it. I don’t want a home that asks everyone to be careful all the time.

Choose comfort over display

A room feels welcoming when people know they can settle in. A basket for books, a sturdy table, and a place to put the things that travel from room to room can do more for everyday ease than another carefully arranged ornament. I still enjoy making things beautiful; I just want beauty to make room for family life.

Let the island shape home

Living on Maui means the light and air are part of the house’s character. Open windows can bring in a lovely breeze, while the day’s warmth is a reminder to think about what belongs in the sun and what is happier tucked away. I like interiors that feel rooted in where we are, with natural textures and color, rather than trying to recreate a room from somewhere else.

Keep the welcome visible

A home does not need to be finished before it can be generous. Clear one place to sit, put a favorite book within reach, and let the rest tell the honest story of a household in motion. If the room feels comfortable enough for someone to linger, it is doing its job.
